S2000 Digital Cluster

A plug-in digital instrument cluster for the 2004-05 Honda S2000. The original cluster comes out and this goes straight onto the car's own connectors, with no cutting and no adapter loom, and the car can go back to standard whenever you like.

Features

Modern inside, standard-looking outside.

This is what the design sets out to do. It is still in development, so nothing here has been proven on the car yet.

Plug-in fit, no cutting

It plugs straight onto the car's own two cluster connectors, wired pin for pin like Honda's. No splicing, and no donor cluster needed.

A big, bright screen

A 10.3" widescreen at 1920×720 and 900 nits, with an anti-glare, anti-fingerprint surface rated from −30 to +85°C. It dims with the lights and reads the daylight with its own sensor.

Make it yours, from your phone

The cluster has its own WiFi and a built-in app in your browser, with nothing to install. Start from a built-in layout or make your own, with every colour for day and night, a choice of fonts, and your own photos behind the gauges.

Everything the original did

In an S2000 the cluster also runs the intermittent wipers, the demister timer, the rear fog light and the warning chimes. This does all of it, timed to match a real cluster.

Designed to stay road legal

The speedo is calibrated against GPS and reads slightly high like the original, never low. Your mileage carries over from the old cluster, and the warning lights can never be hidden.

Reverse camera

An optional plug-in camera module shows the reverse view on the dash the moment you select reverse.

Updates over WiFi

New features arrive over your home WiFi while the car is parked. Updates are signed, and if one ever fails the cluster rolls itself back to the last version.

Built to last in a car

Automotive-grade parts throughout, protection against voltage spikes and reverse battery, and a design taken through ten independent reviews.

3D assembly

How it goes together.

Drag to rotate, and pull the slider to take the parts apart. A simplified view of the screen, interface board, processor and housing.

Where it's up to

Honest about the stage it's at.

The electronics are designed and the software runs in a browser demo. The first boards are still to be built, and nothing has been tested on the real screen yet.

  1. ResearchChecked against Honda's own schematics and UK owners
  2. FirmwareCompiles cleanly, renders every face
  3. Bench testsUnder way on a donor cluster
  4. Board layoutLay out and order the interface board
  5. On the roadFit, calibrate and prove it in the car

Try it

The theme editor, running right here.

This is the real app that styles the cluster, running here in demo mode, so no car is needed. Switch themes, change colours and layout, and watch the preview update. Best on a larger screen.
